At this point the game tells you to press R1 (the Ninja Run button). Near the end of the fight the helicopter will shoot rockets at you. Another example while I want to bring up is the helicopter fight towards the end of the demo. While cutting through enemies you will get prompts every now and then where you can press square and x and the same time which will swing an enemy up into the air while the game goes into slow motion and you cut the enemy up like sushi. While it wouldn’t do the game justice to talk about the graphics right now as it really isn’t finished, the game is very stylized. The whole game isn’t completely based on this system as it has a combo system very similar to one of Platinum Games prior games- Bayonetta. It’s rather ridiculous and sort of unneeded, but it’s awesome none-the-less. For instance you can cut just a small sliver of the side of the watermelon, or cut it into thirds, halves, etc. You can cut things in a very precise manner depending on where YOU want to cut it rather than predetermined places where you can cut. I couldn’t resist the urge to cut them up, which turned out to reveal something very impressive about the game. Speaking of watermelons, further along the path there just happened to be a few watermelons on a table. Basically it’s the mechanic from the first trailer shown where Raiden is cutting watermelons, only now it’s actually in playable form rather than just a concept. When you pull back the right analog stick a line forms to show you exactly where you’re going to cut and all you have to do is let go of the stick and he will swing the sword.

With the tap of L1 the game goes into slow motion. The demo shows you the basics of how Rising plays, specifically the ‘cut anything’ aspect. Rising should be taken on the merits of its own rather than compared to the prior Metal Gear installments. If you’re expecting the stealth gameplay from the game you’re in for a rude awakening. It’s important to note that while this game may have Metal Gear in the name, it is most certainly not Metal Gear Solid. There’s a lot going against Rising, but with Platinum Games at the helm the game seems like it is in good hands. It also stars the surprise protagonist from Metal Gear Solid 2 (Raiden) who was rather whiney and a push over, even if Metal Gear Sold 4 helped his image by turning him into a bad ass, the bad taste still remains. Metal Gear purists would cry foul over its pure action elements rather than any stealth that the franchise has perfected. While I have only minimal tolerance for Raiden and his shitbaggy shitbagness, I imagine a number of you out there are disappointed to hear nothing of Rising at this year's E3.Metal Gear Rising: Revengence is a polarizing title. The tech demo is toward the end of the conference-which you can watch on Konami's website, or possibly another site if Konami's servers are still borked to hell-but it shows off some impressive lighting and environmental effects, and evidently will make developing simultaneously for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC a great deal easier.

Titled the Fox Engine, the new engine is designed for multiplatform compatibility. Though any real info on Kojima's next upcoming project was unlikely to appear today, he did give a brief look at a new engine Kojima Productions has been developing in house, which his next title will use. If we were to see any new media or information for the game in 2011, the next most likely place would be at this year's Tokyo Game Show. On the subject of Rising, Kojima was fairly tight-lipped, but did state that the game was still scheduled for a 2012 release, as originally planned. During the course of Konami's slightly-less-bizarre-than-usual pre-E3 press conference, Kojima made it emphatically known that neither Rising, nor any other Kojima joint, outside of the newly announced MGS and Zone of the Enders HD Collections, would be at E3 2011. No whiny cyborgs at this year's E3! Unless someone is planning a Bulletstorm offshoot starring Ishi. Plus, there's all that talk of a brand new, original title from the studio that we couldn't help but hope might get teased ever so slightly. Even still, hope still existed that perhaps, just maybe, Kojima Productions might give fans a new look-see at Metal Gear Solid: Rising, which hasn't really made its presence felt in what feels like forever. We already knew that Hideo Kojima was planning to stay in Japan for this year's E3, and that such far-flung nonsense as a Metal Gear Solid 5 wouldn't make its debut at the show.
